On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the acceptance of the Archaeological Site of Troia to the UNESCO World Heritage List, Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism declared 2018 as the Year of Troy. As a humble educational contribution to this declaration, the undergraduate students of the Department of English Language and Literature of ASBU will bring to life the mythical and historical characters, events and stories in Homer's works by means of a variety of activities.

Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, studied in the course of ELIT 241 Classical Literature and alluded to in the course of ELIT 285 Mythology in our department's second-year undergraduate curriculum of the 2018-2019 Academic Year Fall Term, will be recited in the historical sites, where the actions in these works took place.

In our plan exist two visits: the first to Troia Museum in Çanakkale which is now home to invaluable historical artifacts recalled also in the above-mentioned courses, and the second to the "Troy: Land of Dreams" Exhibition in the State Mint of the Istanbul Museum of Archaeology special to the Year of Troy. These visits will host contemporary interpretations and presentations about the Trojan War, Troia Ruins, Iliad and myths.

Thus, information acquired in the courses of the curriculum can be re-evaluated through the skills of close reading, analysis, critical thinking and rewriting in the context of the attendants' contemporary lives. All the data, experience and impressions gathered during this research and study will be delivered to you in visual and verbal media.
